L’Europe centrale au Pléistocène moyen récent : rupture et continuité avec l’Europe du Nord-Ouest

International audienceDuring the Middle Pleistocene the technical trends in Central Europe seem to deviate from Western European ones. The small amount of data, the absence of handaxes and the late appearance of Levallois have led to the assumption that this region has undergone an independent technological development compared to neighboring regions. The research carried out in Central Europe in recent years has enabled us to reassess this issue on the basis of new results. In this work, we will present a synthesis of the main features of human occupation in Central Europe between MIS 10 and 6. These results are then compared with the situation in Northwestern Europe, highlighting differences and similarities between these two regions. La pauvreté des données, l’absence de bifaces et l’apparition tardive du Levallois a souvent conduit à considérer cette région comme ayant une évolution tech- nique autonome vis-à-vis des espaces limitrophes. Les travaux en cours sur cette région nous permettent de réexaminer cette question à partir de nouveaux résultats. Dans ce travail, nous présenterons une synthèse des principales caractéristiques des occupations humaines en Europe centrale entre les MIS 10 et 6. Ces résultats seront comparés avec ceux de l’Europe du Nord-Ouest, en abordant les différences et les points communs entre ces deux régions.
