Its plan is that of a hexagon enclosed in a polygon with six and eleven columns at the angles. This enables all the pillars to be seen at one time from whatever side they are viewed. During the Crusader period the Dome of the Chain became a chapel dedicated to Saint James, the first Bishop of Jerusalem, who was thrown down from the temple wall. The Mount of Olives can be seen through the columns and arches. There is a strange belief that in the time of King Solomon a miraculous chain was suspended from heaven over this spot. In disputes the chain 'would advance to meet the grasp of him who was in the right, and would elude all efforts of the other to catch it'".; Hurley series: Palestine, World War II.; Other number: 48
