Title devised by cataloguer based on accompanying information.; Part of the Australian Information Service collection.; Inscriptions: "In a ceremony at Wattie Creek, near Wave Hill, Northern Territory on August 16, 1975, the Australian Prime Minister, Mr Gough Whitlam, handed to the leader of the Gurindji Tribe of Aboriginals the title documents for 3238 km of grazing land surrendered by the Wave Hill Pastoral Company. The ceremony marked the succesful end of a nine-year struggle by the Gurindji people to regain ownership of their tribal land, on which they will operate their own cattle station and is the first such transfer of land to the original owners in the 200 years of European settlement in Australia..."--Printed on verso; "An Aboriginal of the Gurindji tribe dances in a corroboree to celebrate the occasion.
