The Japanese print shows two high-ranking samurais in extravagant kimonos exchanging words, having a fan in their hands; a well-known Chinese poem was written by Morita Jihei 9th; flowers in the back was created by Fukushima Ryuho, a painter from different school but not Ukiyo-e.The Chinese poem was read by Uesugi Kenshin, when he won a famous battle in 1577. He is the person on the right in the print with beautiful armour.In the print, two famous actors are playing the roles respectively: Uesugi Kenshin by Ichikawa Danjuro 9th and Wada ... by Nakamura Shigan.The person who's caligraphy of the poem printed in the print was a successful businessman in patent-medicine business; the name of his well-known product, 'Morita Hotan' is also written next to the poem; seems like one of the major sponsors of Kabuki plays of that time
