Map of the world drawn up by Jesuits depicting the shape of the continents as they were known in the mid-18th century. California appears as a peninsula (previously regarded as an island) and Nova Hollandia [i.e. Australia] is still still only partially represented and conjoined by Carpentaria to N. Guinea. Significant Jesuit missions are shown are symbolised by the Christian cross scattered throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.
