Journal describing in great detail Nichols' voyage out to Australia on board the "James Gibb" including accounts of changes of weather and climate, illnesses, deaths of many children, diversions and celebrations. Nichols documents his arrival at Port Jackson after 141 days, and the troubled aftermath of the voyage. He also describes at length his stay in Sydney and Parramatta and his decision to go to Goulburn to start farming
