"John Gorton was Prime Minister of Australia. This image was taken in 1996 at Sir John 's house in Vaucluse, Sydney. Having found his name in the white pages and called him to arrange a time to be photographed. He was fascinated by the fact that I wanted to photograph him as I was not even born when he was prime minister. I found him a friendly and proud Australian who was also a staunch monarchist with the picture of him and the queen on her visit to Australia displayed prominently on his sideboard." -- Description supplied by photographer
