"The Seminary of St. Joseph was founded in Macao in the middle of the 18th century to provide instruction for priests of the Missions of China. Founded by the Jesuits it was taken over by the Ecclesiastical Authorities early in the 19th century and has been the Seminary for priests not only in China but also Singapore and Timor, until very recently."--Accompanying notes
