The Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Treasurer Paul Keating once again find themselves out on a limb over the issue of wage discounting as a consequence of the devaluation of the Australian dollar - previously they had found themselves at odds over the matter of Keating's preferred 'Option C' at Hawke's tax summit. The unions, are opposed to any discounting of indexed wage increases. At the same time it has not been a good week for the Coalition. Liberal Party Federal President John Valder, in a moment of frankness, reveals a lack of policy substance on the Coalition side, severely embarrassing Leader Andrew Peacock.
