High speed surgical cutting tools induce heat (>47°C) for short durations on bone tissue, leading to a thermally-induced cell death in bone cells. Post-operative bone healing at the cut surface and bone dust are important for ensuring the success of surgery and preventing long recovery time for patients. Autograft bone dust prepared using surgical burs can be re-introduced into patients to enhance bone healing.
