Synthèse d'engrenages moléculaires

Considerable progress has been made in the field of molecular machines in which the by a Nobel Prize was awarded in 2016. Multiple examples of molecular machines capable of providing controllable movement via chemical, light or electrical sources have been reported. In our group, a motor with a unidirectional and reversible motion has previously been synthesized. This molecular motor is a ruthenium (II) complex in which the whose rotation of the mobile part, the rotor, is controlled by the tunneling microscope tip. This motor raises new questions: are we able to transfer this movement to other molecules? If it takes place, what is the limit of the transfer of movement? What are the prerequisites for the transfer of motion? This thesis is part of the demonstration of the control of the rotation of a molecular motor. To find answers to these new questions a whole series of molecular gears, integrating the design of the molecular engine already studied in the team, and introducing 1D or 2D paddles have been synthesised. This thesis firstly describes the optimization and the synthesis of the different pentabrominated and pentaiodinated precursors as well the results of the observation of the pentabrominated precursor by tunneling microscopy. The later chapters are devoted to the optimization of the coupling conditions (Suzuki, Sonogashira, ...), to the coupling leading to a 1D functionalized symmetric gear with ferrocenes or aryl groups and to other couplings leading to the functionalized 2D gears with carbazole groups, BODIPY or porphyrins. The X-ray elucidated structure of a 1D symmetrical gear will also be discussed. The last chapter presents the synthesis of asymmetrical gears to demonstrate the rotation by tunneling microscopy.Dans le domaine des machines moléculaires, récompensé en 2016 par un prix Nobel, des progrès considérables ont été réalisés. De multiples exemples de machine moléculaire capable de fournir un mouvement contrôlable via une source d'énergie chimique, lumineuse ou électrique ont été rapporté. Dans notre groupe, un moteur ayant un mouvement unidirectionnel et réversible a été synthétisé. Ce moteur est un complexe de ruthénium(II) dont la rotation de la partie mobile, le rotor, est contrôlée par la pointe d'un microscope à effet tunnel. Ce moteur pose de nouvelle questions : somme nous capable de transférer ce mouvement vers d'autres molécules ? S'il a lieu, qu'elle est la limite du transfert de mouvement ? Qu'elles sont les prérequis pour un transfert de mouvement ? Cette thèse s'inscrit à la suite de la démonstration du contrôle de la rotation d'un moteur moléculaire. Afin de trouver des réponses à ces nouvelles questions toute une série d'engrenage moléculaire a été synthétisé, intégrant le design du moteur moléculaire déjà étudié dans l'équipe, et comportant des pâles 1D ou 2D. Cette thèse décrit dans un premier temps l'optimisation et la synthèse des différents précurseurs pentabromé et pentaiodé ainsi que les résultats de l'observation du précurseur pentabromé en microscopie à effet tunnel. Les chapitres suivant seront consacrés à l'optimisation des conditions de couplages (Suzuki, Sonogashira, ...), au couplage menant aux engrenages symétriques 1D fonctionnalisés avec des ferrocènes ou des groupements aryles et au couplage menant aux engrenages 2D fonctionnalisés avec des groupements carbazoles, BODIPY ou encore porphyrines. On discutera également de la structure élucidée par rayon X d'un engrenage symétrique 1D. Le dernier chapitre présente sur la synthèse d'engrenages dissymétrique pour prouver la rotation en microscopie à effet tunnel
