The objective of my research was to investigate the manner in which clinical devices, such as ICDs and PMs, detect the most common arrhythmias encountered in clinical practice. Nowadays, specific algorithms of discrimination are implemented in current devices. The pitfalls in the management of patients with arrhythmias are not uncommon; most often these include errors in detection and discrimination which may promote and/or perpetuate the arrhythmia or determine inappropriate therapies such as shocks. In fact, the incorrect discrimination of malignant arrhythmias could have a significant impact on morbidity and mortality.
