Selenium (Se) nutrition in rainbow trout broodstock and their F1 progeny fed plant-based diets was studied. The diets were unsupplemented or added with 0.3 ppm Se as inorganic (sodium selenite) or organic (hydroxy-selenomethionine, OH-SeMet). Parental Se, especially as organic form, improved reproduction performance and increased body Se levels in the progeny before first feeding. In the F1 progeny, tissue Se distribution was modified pending on parental and dietary Se level and form. OH-SeMet efficiently raised muscle Se content, but the direct sodium selenite feeding resulted in higher liver Se levels.
