The exogenous transformation which affects the rocks emerging from the intertropical belt, has built up at the expense of peridotites from New Caledonia, thick lateritic mantles enriched in various metals. The objective of this study was to characterize the chemical and mineralogical evolutions of the elements and minerals of the platinum group in this lateritic environment. The petrographic and petrological approach made it possible to highlight an early modification of the initial mineralization during serpentinization by a process of desulfurization of precursor sulphides, and a precipitation of new platinum group minerals (PGM).
