Benchmarking government services is a cooperative development between the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments to compare the performance of publicly funded social infrastructure services. A performance monitoring framework has been developed for the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) by the Productivity Commission (PC) to benchmark the performance education, health, housing and community services. The objectives are accountability for public funds and improving the performance of public services providers. The focus is on public services rather than the management of public agencies.
