In times of severe competition, loyalty programs (LPs) are introduced by firms to provide customers with added value to gain higher levels of loyalty and retention. While LPs are claimed to engender customer loyalty, researchers have not reached a decision about whether these programs are worthwhile for businesses in the long-run.
