Changing the Narrative is a short documentary funded by the Leverhulme Trust. It builds on the research conducted by Prof Farzana Shain for the project ‘British Muslim girls’ narrative accounts of their past, present and future lives’ (Leverhulme Trust Grant RF-2016-278/8).The film explores how a group of 7 young women feel about the ways in which are they are currently framed by news and media outlets and policy and political discourses. The girls explore these framings versus their reality. The ambition of the film is to initiate critical dialogue and discussion with schools and colleges and with policy makers about what they can do change the narrative in relation to the (mis)representations of Muslim girls and women.
