Bridges to China: a web-based course in modern Chinese

The University of Melbourne is now offering a Graduate Certificate in Modern Chinese by Distance education. The material for four subjects which comprise the certificate is 'Bridges to China', which is an intermediate level course in Chinese language designed for the WWW using either PC (Windows 95) or Macintosh computers. 'Bridges to China' has been developed with the support of the National Asian Languages and Studies in Australian Schools Taskforce (NALSAS). The goal of the course is to develop the language skills of those who already have some Chinese. As these students are likely to be working, primary attribute of this course is that it is self-paced, although guided by a tutor and not intended for private study. Entry to it is based a pass in the open Learning Agency's four-semester Beginner's Chinese, or equivalent.
