The Asian American Experience

The following zine pages aim to provide insight into the global experiences of Asian Americans. There are many ethnicities encapsulated in the term Asian Americans. In addition, each ethnic group has unique experiences. Studying Asian American race and gender relations is essential in unpacking global power dynamics. This zine attempts to show the way Asian American experiences have evolved over time. It attempts to connect history to the present by showing how Asian Americans are still affected by events that happened centuries ago Through exploring specific historic events, this zine reveals how the U.S. constructed the “Asian American” racial category. It shows the interconnectedness of identity formation between varying Asian American groups, other minority groups, and white groups. It will help us understand how the United States\u27 colonies and military tactics have heavily influenced Asian Americans. Overall, the goal of this zine is to further the reader’s knowledge about global racial patterns, specifically that of Asian Americans. Before reading this zine, please note that our analysis, though based on scholarly readings, may be slightly subjective and limited in scope. It is unrealistic to try to fit every analysis in a few pages; therefore, there is room for deeper questioning.
