We present an initial survey of Mg II absorption characteristics in a carefully constructed, volume-limited subsample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We survey quasars near nine z 0.11 luminous with the LRIS-B spectrograph on the Keck telescope. Only 2/9 exhibit strong MgII absorption at the galaxy's redshift [EW(2796) > 0.3 Å]. The two absorbers are among the bluest galaxies and are also relatively isolated. The results strongly suggest that MgII halo gas absorption in the local universe occurs preferentially around isolated blue galaxies with ongoing star formation
