This chapter is about inequality and social class in Australia. It addresses inequality and social class through a critical review of egalitarianism. More specifically, it addresses four possible rationales for the egalitarian view of Australia: the distribution of wealth and income, social mobility, public policy and class awareness. It then considers whether these rationales provide support for the view of Australia as an egalitarian society
