The use of secondary (rechargeable) cells (and batteries) has replaced primary cells as source of power for low power and also mobile devices and applications. With the recent development of supercapacitors, it is now possible to make use of them as a source of power instead of using batteries. This paper proposes the use of a renewable energy source, combined with supercapacitors to replace battery operated devices. The clear advantage is that there is no need to replenish used batteries, or connect to a mains power supply for recharging, thus saving costs and enable true mobility for those devices.
