Telehealth is strongly supported in policy rhetoric as being economically significant to Australia, but evaluation standards have been insufficiently developed to ensure that this is the case. The use of one such evaluation standard, the Australian and New Zealand Telehealth Committee (ANZTC) framework, for telehealth evaluation in Australia makes good sense. However, that framework emphasizes economic and technical considerations at the expense of social contexts. Furthermore, there must be questions about the utility of a framework which, it appears, has been used to evaluate only a single telehealth project in Australia.
