Inside the foresight mind

How is it that individuals conceive of the future? What does a survey of relevant psychological theory bring to an understanding of futures thought? The future is not something that can be empirically located and quantified. The future cannot be reduced to a mathematical proposition or formula. The future is not a 'received view' but is, instead, a 'constructed view'. Psychology itself has undergone a number of paradigmatic revolutions as the significant question of how human thought eventuates has been debated. This chapter will employ these debates in order to uncover how psychology can aid our understanding of how futures thought might eventuate, be studied and propagated
