The U.S. Naval Postgraduate School

Dr. Wilkinson graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in the class of 1918 and served in the Navy until 1927. In March 1947 he went to the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School as its first civilian dean. He had previously held the position of dean of the Speed Scientific School at the University of Louisville.Recent legislation by Congress has provided the Navy with an institution that may well become one of the nation's outstanding graduate schools in science and technology. The two acts passed by the Eightieth Congress, and enacted into laws by the signature of the President, provide the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School with statutory authority to conduct graduate and postgraduate instruction in an unlimited variety of fields and to establish the School as an independent unit with administrative authority similar to that of the U.S. Naval Academy; they authorize also the purchase of the property at Monterey, California, for the future home of the School
