The Cognitive Radar (CR) is a new field for radar research. Its basic characteristics are introduced in this thesis. Two specific types of waveforms are used in this research; wideband and an adaptive waveform called probability weighted energy (PWE) waveform. This thesis also illustrates a comparison of two approaches to using a target recognition CR system. The first approach is to set a specific probability threshold but without limiting the number of transmissions. In contrast, the second approach is to set a specific number of transmissions.
