The investigation of noise and noise figure in microwave receivers was commenced in the fall of 1948 at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School and was continued through the winter in the electronics laboratory of the Glenn L. Martin Company at Middle River, Maryland. This field work was done to give the writer experience in the measurement of noise figure and to acquaint him with the factors contributing to noise in amplifiers as well as the design considerations in the development of a low-noise amplifier.http://archive.org/details/noisendnoisefigu1094531642Lieutenant Commander, United States NavyApproved for public release; distribution is unlimited
