Terrestrilise laserskaneerimise süsteemid on olnud saadaval rohkem kui kümme aastat ja see on saamas üldtuntud meetodiks 3D andmete hankimisel. Terrestriliste laserskannerite kasutamine muutub üha populaarsemaks ka Eestis. Kuid siiani puuduvad üldised täpsusnõuded terrestrilistele laserskanneritele, ei ole standardiseeritud teste ega kalibreerimismeetodeid kasutajatele. Teema on väga oluline, kuna Eestis ei ole testirada skannerite testimiseks ja antud temaatikat ei ole ka siin varem uuritud.
