This study sought to examine African-American father/son relationships. The purpose of this study was to measure African-American males attitudes toward their fathers presence in the home, or absence from the home, during critical developmental years. An adapted 29-item questionnaire, regarding Parent-Child Relationship, was utilized to ascertain the data. The findings provided evidence, derived from 32 African- American males between the ages of 17 and 36, that illustrated there was a relationship between the presence of fathers in the home and the time spent with fathers, closeness to the fathers, and feeling fathers as a father, instead of an adult with their own lives
