Abstract : Airfoils are the basic building blocks used in variety of applications from turbofans to modern ventilation systems and drones. These airfoils were primarily designed to maximize lift to drag ratio. Nevertheless, due to ever increasing noise regulations in place, new low noise and stealthy designs are needed, thus we need to direct our attention towards the principles that determine noise generated by flow convecting over an airfoil. Airfoil trailing-edge is known to amplify noise by diffracting incident pressure field induced by the turbulent boundary layer. Therefore, depending on the nature of the turbulent boundary layer, the airfoil can either whistle or emit broadband noise. The present thesis aims at improving our understa...
