Tuotekehityksen ja toimitusketjun välinen yhteistyö tuotemuutoksissa

One of the fundamentals of successful product development is collaboration between different functions and stakeholders involved in the development process. The demand for cross-functional cooperation becomes even greater as the designed products or product changes are being implemented to the production and distribution. This thesis examines the product change management and implementation to supply chain from cross-functional cooperation perspective. The purpose of the thesis is to identify and analyse different dimensions of cooperation between functions and stakeholders participating to product change implementation process. The aim is to clarify the requirements for co-operation in the case company and to propose improvement suggestions regarding the current product change implementation process. The improvement proposals aim to improve the environment for cooperation, manageability and transparency of the implementation process. Furthermore, the improved cooperation aims to speed up the time-to market of product changes. This thesis begins with theory formulation part, which introduces the reader to general product development literature. Furthermore, this chapter aims to distinguish relevant dimensions of cooperation related to the interplay between product development and supply chain functions. The research methodology used in this thesis is qualitative and the empirical research is based on the interviews conducted in the case company. The interview results are presented and discussed under each function to gain a clear overview of the objectives of different stakeholders. Moreover, the interview results are analysed and discussed using the framework presented in the theory formulation part. The biggest improvement opportunities distinguished in this thesis include: unclear roles and responsibilities between stakeholders and poor understanding of the end-to-end process including all sub-processes. The last part of this thesis introduces reader to the improvement suggestions. Improvement suggestions are further analysed in this part and they include e.g.: improving the level of official process descriptions, mapping out interlinks between sub-processes and clarifying the needed and most important communication paths between stakeholders.Onnistuneen tuotekehityksen yksi tärkeimmistä avaintekijöistä on yrityksen eri funktioiden ja toimijoiden välinen saumaton yhteistyö. Vaatimus tehokkaaseen poikkifunktionaaliseen yhteistyöhön korostuu implementoitaessa suunniteltuja tuotteita tai tuotemuutoksia valmistukseen ja toimitusketjuun. Tässä diplomityössä käsitellään tuotemuutosten hallintaa ja niiden implementaatiota toimitusketjun ydinfunktioihin poikkifunktionaalisen yhteistyön näkökulmasta. Diplomityön tavoitteena on tunnistaa ja analysoida yhteistyön eri ulottuvuuksia toimitusketjun ydinfunktioiden ja tuotekehityksen välisessä yhteistyössä. Työ pyrkii selventämään yhteistyön vaatimuksia esimerkkiyrityksessä ja tarjoaa kehitysehdotuksia tuotemuutosten implementointiprosessin kehittämiseksi. Diplomityö alkaa kattavalla teoriaosuudella. Teoriaosuus aloitetaan katsauksella yleiseen tuotekehitysviitekehykseen, tuotekehityksen menestystekijöihin, sekä erilaisiin tuotekehityssuuntauksiin. Teoriaosuuden aikana pyritään tunnistamaan viitekehyksessä tärkeitä yhteistyön elementtejä. Työn tutkimusote on vahvasti kvalitatiivinen ja empiirinen osuus rakentuu esimerkkiyrityksessä haastatteluin kerättyyn materiaaliin. Kattavan haastatteluotannan perusteella tuotekehityksen sekä toimitusketjun ydinfunktioiden kokemat ongelmat tuotemuutosten implementointiprosessissa lajitellaan yksiköittäin yleiskuvan kartoittamiseksi. Lisäksi havainnot analysoidaan hyväksikäyttämällä edellä luotua teoreettista viitekehystä. Suurimmiksi ongelmiksi tutkimuksessa tunnistetaan: epäselvät roolit ja vastuut, sekä virallisen prosessin ja sen syötteiden puute. Lisäksi havaittiin ongelmia implementoinnin läpinäkyvyydessä sekä systemaattisuudessa. Diplomityössä tarjotut kehitysehdotukset implementaatioprosessin kehittämiseksi on jäsennelty omaksi kappaleeksi. Kehitysehdotukset sisältävät mm. Prosessikuvauksen kehittämisen ja aliprosessien yhdistämisen, tarvittavien kommunikaatiopolkujen selvittämisen sekä prosessin omistajuuksien tarkentamisen
