Energy efficiency of buildings is developing rapidly towards nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB) and the regulations are becoming more demanding, which creates significant challenges for energy and cost-optimal buildings and life-cycle-cost optimization. The objective of the thesis is to find energy efficient and cost-optimal concepts, which meet the class A and B requirements of the Finnish building's energy certification. The research is focusing on day care and office buildings. Dynamic energy simulations and optimization algorithms have been used to find optimal solutions.
