An interest in utilizing challenging fuels, such as low quality coal, waste and biomass, is increasing. A promising technology for this purpose are the circulating fluidized bed (CFS) boilers that can utilize different fuels with only a little pre-treatment. For development of these boilers and simulation software that are used to model them, it is important to understand the basic phenomena that occur in boilers. The purpose of the thesis was to study the effect of bed mass and fluidization velocity, on the gas channelling in CFS riser. The channelling might influence on mixing of gas and solid particles and also it might have an effect on the residence time of the particles.
