This master's thesis examines the influence of different casting defects and repair welding on a strut made of ductile cast iron (GJS-500-7U). The aim in this thesis is to determine whether it is possible to use the repair welding method for struts. Another aim is to examine the validity of current material strength requirements. The upper flange of the strut came from China and was split in Finland. Thirty-two strut specimens were studied in bending fatigue tests within four different test series. The specimens were inspected with non-destructive testing methods and included both materials with and without casting defects. Repair welding's made in two of the series.
