The use of cellulose packages in the food industry is increasing rapidly. To develop more long~ lasting and re-usable packages, the temperature resistance of cellulose packages needs to be improved. In high temperatures cellulose degrades which results in yellowing of paper and deterioration of its strength properties. Water plays a significant role in the thermal degradation process. The purpose of this study was to study the effect of water vapour on thermal degradation of cellulose and to compare the thermal degradation resistance of several pulps with a different refining intensity.
