Maintenance optimization is becoming an increasingly important method to reduce the operation and maintenance costs of wind turbines. An electrical generator is one of the most critical components of wind turbine in terms of downtime and production loss caused by possible failures. The objective of this thesis is to develop a flexible tool for modelling the economic impact of different kinds of maintenance strategies for wind turbine generators. The compiled MS Excel-based optimization tool is set up for modelling the expected costs of two different maintenance strategies, which are storing replacement generators as emergency spare parts near the wind farm, or repairing the damaged generators after a failure has occurred.
