In December 2004, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) launched the study item on the Universal Terrestrial Radio Access network (UTRAN) Long Term Evolution (LTE) to achieve a high-data-rate, low-latency and packet-optimized radio access technology. LTE is the label mark for the 4th Generation (4G) mobile system.
