In this study, temperature distribution in the mechanical loading device for irradiation experiments is calculated using the finite element method. The device is designed to study creep behaviour of the fuel cladding material under neutron radiation. The device will produce controlled bi-axial load on a tubular test specimen. The submitted load consists of axial tensile or compression load and internal pressure load introduced in the test specimen. The device will also measure deformations of the test specimen on-line. Thermal analyses are needed to support the design of the loading device since the neutron radiation increases temperature in the device.
