Large part of the energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions are caused by buildings. Concern of global warming, high energy prices and growing dependability of imported energy increase the demand of energy efficient houses. Therefore, a number of definitions for low-energy houses have developed. The thesis examines low-energy holiday houses, thermal environment in Northern Finland, as well as climate conditions in years 2001-2008. Energy benchmarks of the buildings are done using calculations and a simulation tool. Thesis was conducted as part of a MATKA-program.
