Effective way to reduce emissions of an internal combustion engine is to improve burning process. Modern diesel motors use common rail systems to achieve low emissions. In a common rail system the fuel is pressurized in a single tube shaped tank and fed commonly to all fuel injection valves. A fuel injection valve doses the fuel to a cylinder in controlled operations. The research problem of this thesis was to develop a faster and more accurate fuel injection valve. The operational principle of the fuel injection valve was decided to be based on piezoelectric technology.
