Väriprofiilin mustan osavärin parametrien vaikutus kuvanlaatuun suurkuvatulostamisessa

The objective of the thesis was to study the effect of the black ink parameters of the colour profile on image quality in large-format printing. The parameters were black start and black width. The effect was measured by both perceived image quality and change in the colour gamut volumes. The thesis is divided into two parts: theory and experimental. In the theory part the different methods and technologies of large-format printing were reviewed. Colour theory was discussed in the form of colour models, colour gamuts and colour management. In the last chapter of the theory part the different models of image quality modelling were presented. For the experiment six different colour profiles were created, the profiles being a combination of three different values for black start and two different values for black width. The samples were printed with three different image contents, and the printing was done by pietzo-inkjet-printer typical for large format printing. Each content was evaluated by paired-comparison method. With each colour profile a target field with 1120 colour patches was printed. The colour patches of the target fields were measured with spectrophotometer, and volume of colour gamut for each sample was calculated by using two different methods. In conclusion, the differences in perceived total image quality were small. The black start didn't have a statistically significant effect on image quality, although there were differences in image quality ratings between different samples. Effect of the black width on image quality was statistically important. The maximum value of black width resulted in better image quality than the minimum value. The colour gamut volumes correlated with the amount of black ink used, but the colour gamut volume did not directly correlate with image quality. The image content had a significant effect on how easily the image quality changes were perceived.Diplomityössä tutkittiin väriprofiilin mustan osavärin parametrien vaikutusta kuvanlaatuun suurkuvatulostuksen menetelmillä tehdyissä kuvissa. Tutkittavia parametreja olivat mustan alku ja mustan leveys. Työssä tarkasteltiin molempien parametrien vaikutusta havaittuun kokonaiskuvanlaatuun sekä tulostettujen kuvien toistoavaruuksien tilavuuksiin. Työ koostui kirjallisuuskatsauksesta ja kokeellisesta osiosta. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa esitellään suurkuvatulostamisen menetelmät ja teknologiat. Näiden lisäksi käsitellään väriteoriaa värimallien, toistoavaruuksien ja värinhallinnan näkökulmasta. Teoriaosan viimeisessä luvussa käsitellään erilaisia kuvanlaatumalleja. Työn kokeellista osiota varten tehtiin kuusi väriprofiilia, jotka muodostuivat kolmesta eri mustan alun arvosta ja kahdesta eri mustan leveyden arvosta. Kaikki variaatiot tulostettiin kolmella eri kuvasisällöllä. ja tulostamisessa käytettiin suurkuvatulostamiseen tarkoitettua pietsotulostinta. Näytteitä tutkittiin parivertailulla, ja saatuja tuloksia verrattiin kuvasisällöittäin. Eri kuvasisältöjen lisäksi tulostettiin jokaisesta koeasetelman variaatiosta 1120 värialuetta sisältävä värikenttä, jonka arvot mitattiin spektrofotometrilla. Näistä arvoista laskettiin kunkin väriprofiilin aikaansaaman toistoavaruuden tilavuus kahdella eri menetelmällä. Erot havaitussa kokonaiskuvanlaadussa olivat erittäin pieniä. Vaikka mustan alku muodosti eroja kuvanlaadun tuloksiin, ei vaikutus ollut tilastollisesti merkittävä. Väriprofiilin mustan leveyden parametri vaikutti tilastollisesti merkittävästi kokonaiskuvanlaatuun. Mustan leveyden maksimiarvo paransi kuvanlaatua verrattuna minimiarvoon. Toistoavaruuden tilavuus oli riippuvainen mustan osavärin määrästä, mutta toistoavaruuden tilavuus ei ollut suoraan verrannollinen havaittuun kuvanlaatuun. Kuvasisällöllä oli selkeä vaikutus kuvanlaadun erojen havaitsemiseen
