IT-hallinnon ja IT-arkkitehtuurin käyttäminen yrityksen IT-järjestelmien järkeistämisessä

Harnessing information technology (IT) to serve raison d'étre of organizations seems to be a complicated task as confirmed in many of the references used for this work (Henderson & Venkatraman 1993, Hoogervorst 2009: 10, Van Gils 2009). In the early 1990s, the concept of "alignment" between business and IT was coined, illustrated by a strategic alignment model presented by Henderson and Venkatraman (1993). At the same time, other professionals emphasized the importance of architectures in the design of complex IT systems, leading to the development of IT architecture frameworks and standards, as described by Maier et al. (2001). In the beginning of the new millennium, along with the development of corporate and enterprise governance, IT governance viewpoint on the alignment emerged rapidly (De Haes & Van Grembergen 2004). It was believed, that the alignment between business and IT could be achieved by applying right guiding principles, structures and processes to control the development and execution of IT. Goal of this work is to find out how IT governance and enterprise architecture concepts can be used in IT landscape transformation in a specific company. The current IT landscape and main business processes of the company are described. Due to complex historical development, the IT landscape of the company is fragmented and maturity levels of both IT governance and enterprise architecture are low. The literature study presents basic concepts of IT governance and enterprise architectures. Additionally, some leading standards and frameworks are recommended for the practical application of these concepts in the IT landscape transformation. COBIT (Control Objects for Information and Related Technology) is recommended as general IT process governance framework and ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) for the management of outsourced IT infrastructure services. TOGAF (The Open Group Archictecture Framework) is recommended as an enterprise architecture framework and PCF (Process Control Framework) as a guideline to describe main business processes. Finally, the implementation process of these frameworks is outlined.Informaatioteknologian (IT) käyttäminen tukemaan yritysten liiketoimintaa näyttää olevan monimutkaista, kuten monissa työn pohjana olevissa lähteissä todetaan (esim. Henderson & Venkatraman 1993, Hoogervorst 2009: 10, Van Gils 2009). 1990-luvun alussa nousi esiin liiketoiminnan ja IT:n yhteensovittamisen tarve, jota havainnollistaa esim. Hendersonin ja Venktramanin (1993) "liiketoiminnan ja IT:n strateginen yhteensovittamismalli". Samaan aikaan alan tutkijat alkoivat painottaa arkkitehtuurimallien merkitystä, joka johti monien IT- ja kokonaisarkkitehtuurimallien kehittämiseen (Maier et al 2001). 2000-luvun alussa nousi esiin IT-hallinnon teema yritysten hallintomallien kehittämisen myötä (De Haes & Van Grembergen 2004). Uskottiin, että liiketoiminnan ja IT:n yhteensovittaminen voitaisiin saavuttaa soveltamalla IT:n kehittämisessä ja ohjaamisessa oikeanlaisia määrämuotoisia prosesseja, toimintaohjeita ja periaatteita Diplomityön päämäärä on selvittää kuinka IT-hallintoon ja IT-arkkitehtuureihin liittyvät käsitteet voivat auttaa tarkastelun kohteena olevan yrityksen IT-järjestelmien järkeistämisessä. Työssä kuvataan IT-järjestelmien kehitys ja nykytila sekä yrityksen liiketoimintaprosessit karkealla tasolla. Aikaisemman kehityksen tuloksena Yrityksen tietojärjestelmäarkkitehtuuri on hajanainen, eikä yhtenäisiä IT-hallinnon tai IT-johtamisen käytäntöjä ole sovellettu. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa esitetään IT-hallinnon ja kokonaisarkkitehtuurien peruskäsitteet. Pohjautuen kirjallisuuskatsaukseen ja yrityksen tilanteeseen suositellaan yrityksessä tietojärjestelmien järkeistämisen tukemiseksi käyttöönotettavaksi eräitä vakiintuneita käytäntöjä. COBIT (Control Objects for Information and Related Technology) suositellaan käyttöönotettavaksi yleisenä IT-prosessien hallinnoinnin käytäntönä ja ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) erityisesti IT-infrastruktuuripalveluiden tuotannon ohjaamisessa. Kokonais- ja IT-arkkitetuurien kehittämiseen suositellaan TOGAF (The Open Group Archictecture Framework) -standardia.
