Growth and more demanding competition among paper and board producers promote the development of more economical production efficiencies and recipe costs. The goal of this thesis was to achieve recipe savings by replacing SB-latex partly with a biopolymer C*iCoat in precoating colour. C*iCoat would also enable changes in the amounts of CMC, PVA and synthetic thickener. Runnability and high quality were not to be compromised during the process. Drying energy savings were also expected as an outcome of the coating colour modification.
