Contemporary Lithuanian poetry growing into prose

The curiosity of the author of this work about Lithuanian poetry growing into prose was not accidental: the synthesis of various genres in contemporary literature becoming more vital, poet’s escaping into prose essays. The transformation of traditional poetic – forces to contemplate into which direction goes our poetry. So the basic goal of this work – try to reveal, to describe the direction of transformation of Lithuanian’s contemporary poetry. Lithuanian poetry today experience different influences especially: from information and technology society, from television, from mass media, from prose and essayistic creations, from another types and forms of art. Recently critics of Lithuanian literature more frequent talks about influence from prose into poetry, its transformation into prose, into writing more down on earth. For that reason the author of this work had decided to look more precise into this growing tendency. Had to admit, that this very strong reveals itself in a young poets creations of the last decade; they tray to transform the traditional poetry of poems, to escape from abstract talking and the labyrinth of mixture of senses, to contemplate today’s experiences, visualizations, things, objects, stories ect. For a long time the poetry was comprehended like the priority, more exceptional organization of article language. But when critics and literature of realism provided such definitions as “truth”, “simplicity”, exactly then them are becoming the mane esthetical priorities, which tracks is as difficult as to create complicated poetical language form. The rhythm and the rime of poetry, clear revealing of musical part of language, synthesis of rhythmical and syntactical structures for that long was considered the main qualities of poetical form, step by step they started to loose the formal importance. In the postmodernism poetry becoming into prose became the main question of almost every XX century literature movement. In poetry knowledge orientations brings it closer to philosophy and prose, also to essays. The contemporary poetry more and more refuses metaphorical, paradigmatically talking, inherits prose qualities – such as desiderative, narrative. Had to admit, that poetical form, attempting of simplifying talking reveals itself in the exile literature, in seventh decade of Lithuanian poetry, but contemporary authors especially strong resist for long time Lithuanian poetical tradition or goes directly to another direction. The poetry of contemporary Lithuanian poets – G. Grajauskas, M. Burokas, G. Norvilas, R. Kmita, D. Petrošius, M. Valiukas, L. Kranauskas, N. Abrutytė, L. Katkus and others – is full of verbs, ironic, sarcastic, narrow talking. The rhythm is cracking; observation of things and surfaces grows stronger in general. The poetry itself transforms tactics and strategies of talking. It takes over qualities especial for prose: narrative, describable structures and intonations, desirability, event and history instead of inside happenings and so on. Describing step by step pushing out the metaphor of poetry – more and more of contemporary Lithuanians poet’s trays to use principal of metonymy, which is simplifying the language, makes it more alike like prose. It could be made the conclusion about special poetry of common day, which denies traditional lyrics, changes comprehension of poetical, refuses rhythmical and melodically strophes, metaphors, very often takes over talkative intonations from prose, essayistic articles, uses paradigm as of conversations, and fabulist. It seems that Lithuanian poetry found itself the solution from the romantically pathos dead end. In the work analyzed poems the talking is more simple (not necessary the poems are simple!), less of movement of associative thought, separated unnecessary decorations of describing (not “opening” of lyrical subject) allows to contemporary poets to reach for a curtain distance, to look to all things with objective eyes of narrator. G. Grajauskas simply weighting and concentrating the impression, directly looking to things, objects, contribution relationships and society, in contemporary poetry justifies and with new sense looks into the them of everyday stories, histories, accidences. In this way – without pose, without artificial poetical manners talks also R. Kmita. This author likes to write, to tell short stories, which inner look photography makes details get into the perspective of look and vital fragments going out of memories. D. Petrošius, N. Abrutytė, L. Katkus, R. Stankevičius, M. Burokas and many more of contemporary poets poems combins inside of poems beginnings of stories, narratives, contemplations. A lot of poems without any boundaries get inside with fabulist drawings, essayistic contemplation. Contemporary Lithuanian poet's looks with sympathy and understanding into our contemporary modern world, do not deny it, but not identifies with it – they are talking from the distance of irony. Contemporary Lithuanian poetry more and more tries to verbalize the world of visual and touchable. The poetry is already tired of excaturated talking of feelings. The poetry tries to talk more simply, to tell the story or the accident, to get into the readers interest.
