The development of high school students leaderiship skills based on natural sciences experiment

Darbas tirtas Ukmergės gimnazijose.The aim of this paper is to reveal the high school students` development of leadership skills peculiarities based on natural sciences experiment. The issue is: how high school students` leadership skills are developed during science lessons. The survey results showed that in science lessons students mostly communicate and have discussions with classmates (more boys than girls), solve theoretical and practical problems, feel responsibility for their learning. The leadership skills such as independence, initiative, creativity, readiness to explore actively, to make experiments are not common among students. The teachers often do not tend to start activities to promote leadership (to plan and carry out experiments and research; encourage and enable collaboration and discussion, to work independently, engage in reasoned discussions). The teachers often provide tasks that require the active engagement of thinking in the III gymnasium forms rather than in the IV forms. According to what a person makes for leadership, the highest valued criteria is ''Ability to learn from mistakes in activities'' while the lowest is - ''The valuable nature of activity \". According to what a person should do about leadership, the highest evaluation is\" The ability to learn from mistakes in activities \" and the lowest - ''Passive attitude towards activity''. The comparison of the leadership criteria shows that higher assessments are apparent in the latter case - that is what a person should do about leadership. The students usually pay their attention to the correction of mistakes.They believe, \"If it does not break, I will not have to fix it.\" The students offer new ways for achieving the goals and sacrifice their interests for the welfare of the group. The students should pay attention to correcting their mistakes, trying to hear complaints and failures; showing satisfaction with answering hopes of others; teaching and learning; waiting for the situation to become wporse before starting any work.Švietimo akademijaVytauto Didžiojo universiteta
