Miegapelių monitoringas buvo vykdomas Bačkonių, Baruolių, Strošiūnų, Mackūnų, Palaraisčio, Pravieniškių, Vadų ir Būdų miškuose 2012 – 2014 metais. Monitoringo metu buvo renkama informacija apie inkiluose aptiktus žinduolius (lytis, svoris, amžius), taip pat imami neinvaziniai miegapelių mėginiai – plaukai. 2014 metų rudenį buvo vykdytas monitoringas Latvijoje, kurio metu buvo surinkta daugiau nei 30 didžiųjų, lazdyninių ir miškinių miegapelių plaukų pavyzdžiai. Per 2012 – 2014 metus buvo aptikta daugiau nei 30 lazdyninių miegapelių iš kurių 17 individų buvo tirti naudojant mikrosatelitinius žymenis ir PGR (polimerazės grandininė reakcija) metodiką.
