Hydrological connectivity can strongly influence phytoplankton communities and ecological status through the interchange of nutrients and organisms in interconnected aquatic habitats. However, there is little consensus regarding the distinction of environmental variables influencing phytoplankton communities related to hydrological connectivity in different aquatic habitats.
