Different indentation methods are nowadays widely used in material property characterization. These methods like hardness, elastic modulus, stress-strain, scratch and fracture toughness tests provide valuable information of component performance and life expectancy under different conditions. Can these indentation methods and formulas developed for homogenous bulk materials or for thin coatings be used with lamellar structures like thermal sprayed coatings?
