Noise decreases image quality considerably, particularly in a dark environment. The purpose of this Master's Thesis was to get information on how noise measurements could be improved. Another focus area was to find out the effect of noise on image quality, as a function of illumination, and to get a threshold value for noise. Image quality measurements can be divided into objective and subjective image quality evaluations. Objective test material for camcorder and camera module measurements were recorded using environment based on ISO 15739 standard.
