The objective in this master's thesis was to analyze continuous casting machine's data, which is automatically recorded during the cast, and to find out causes of transverse cracking. Concentration is especially on cracking at the end of the cast. The theoretical part examines some elements, which most affect hot ductility of steel. The most important factors of continuous casting machine affecting to slabs surface quality are also examined. Introduction of measure equipment used in experimental part of the thesis (machinery to calculate mould's friction and scanning pyrometer) is made in this section.
